Yield

Red Rhone varietals typically yield 70% to 80%:

  • 3.5 to 4 gallons per 5 gallon pail

  • 2.96 to 3.4 gallons per 4.25 gallon pail

Red Bordeaux varietals typically yield 60% to 70%:

  • 3 to 3.5 gallons per 5 gallon pail

  • 2.55 to 2.96 gallons per 4.25 gallon pail

White juice pails typically yield 5 gallons per pail.

Important to note:

  • Your carboy should be of equal size to your expected yield to assure minimal head space. 

  • For red must pails, allow at least 1.5 gallons or 30% of volume for the cap of grape skins to rise during fermentation or the cap might spill out. This typically means splitting one pail of must into two pails or putting one 5 gallon pail into a 7 gallon fermenter.

Size

Red must pails are 6 gallon containers with 5 gallons (50 lb of must), or 5 gallon containers with 4.25 gallons (42.50 lb of must)

White juice pails are 6 gallons containers with 5.25 gallons or 50 lb of juice.

Chemistry

Our white juice pails should have minimal variation from our posted numbers.

Our red must pails will have some variation from pail to pail, but will be very close on average. Always take local measurements where possible.

Always stir your pail from the bottom up before taking a measurement or transferring. The freezing process causes heavy sugar and acids to collect on the bottom.

Shipping

Our heavy foam and durable packaging will keep your grapes mostly frozen until they arrive at your door.

Tracking will be emailed to you automatically once your order is scanned in at the UPS/FedEx warehouse.

Delivery direct to your residence or business via UPS:

Our $60 flat rate option per pail is typically the lowest-cost option for 5 gallon pails shipped to the Midwest, East Coast, and South.

The UPS calculated rate is typically best for western states.

Low cost delivery for pickup at your closest FedEx Office:

We offer a $45 flat rate option per pail for 4.25 gallon pails picked up at your local FedEx Office.

Low calculated rates for pickup at your local FedEx Office for 5 gallon pails are only currently available in OR, WA, and CA.

 We will notify you with our final mile technology provider Via.delivery <https://via.delivery>  through email and SMS messages until
you have retrieved your package.

Orders must be picked up within 3 days of arrival at the pickup location. Please bring a government-issued photo ID. If you're picking up the package for a friend or relative, you'll also need the tracking number and the name of the person the package was addressed to.
